Product Description

An asset register is only as good as the numbering on the assets themselves. Milmark™ custom asset tags carry a unique number, barcode or QR code that ties a physical item to its record, so a stocktake becomes a scan rather than a hunt. Tags are supplied in sequence, so a batch can be issued without tracking which numbers are used.

Three formats, and how to choose. The difference is how the tag is fixed, and that follows the surface it has to stay on.

FormatFixingSuits
Adhesive asset labelSelf-adhesive, applied by handLaptops, IT hardware, office furniture, clean indoor surfaces
Drilled asset tagScrews or rivets through punched holesSurfaces that are dirty, curved, hot or regularly handled
Hanging equipment tagWire, chain or cable tie through a holePumps, strainers, valves, field instruments, washdown areas

Asset labels and asset tag stickers. The adhesive format is what most people mean by an asset label or an asset sticker: a flat tag with a barcode and a serial number, applied directly to the item. It suits laptops, monitors, docking stations and office furniture, where the surface is smooth and the item lives indoors. Where an item is washed down, runs hot or gets knocked, a drilled metal asset tag outlasts any adhesive.

Materials. An aluminium asset tag in anodised finish is the common choice: light, takes a crisp mark, and survives UV and chemicals. Stainless steel is the step up for washdown, marine and outdoor plant. Acrylic and polycarbonate suit indoor use, and engraving laminate is the one to pick when colour has to carry meaning, with one colour per department, per site or per access level.

Equipment tags on a working plant. Here the question is different: a technician needs to know what an item is before touching it. Equipment tags carry the equipment number, a plain description and the location code, so a pump, strainer or field instrument can be matched to the drawing and the maintenance schedule. These are supplied as hanging tags, which is why they survive on equipment that is hot, vibrating, curved or regularly washed down, where an adhesive label lifts within months.

Asset marking across a whole site. A numbering scheme is worth agreeing before the first tag is made: what the number means, where it sits on the item, and who issues the next one. Send us the range and the format and we supply the tags in sequence, so asset identification stays consistent as the register grows.

Where the tag identifies a circuit or a cable run rather than an asset, see our cable and wire tags. Tell us whether you are numbering an asset register or identifying plant on a drawing, and we will match the format, fixing and material to the job.

Where the same numbering has to go on as a printed adhesive label rather than an engraved tag, see our identification and barcode labels, which carry the same asset register in a form you can apply yourself.
