Cut Vinyl Lettering & Decals

Two ways of putting a graphic on a surface in vinyl

  • Full-colour vinyl stickers and decals, die-cut to your outline in any shape or size
  • Cut vinyl lettering with no background panel, for glazing, vehicles and wayfinding
  • Cast vinyl for vehicle bodywork and curves, calendered for flat signage
  • Matte, gloss, metallic, frosted and retroreflective finishes

Product Description

Vinyl is what you use when a sticker has to be waterproof and survive weather, sunlight and washing. It comes in two forms here, and which one you want depends on whether the graphic has colour in it.

Printed vinyl stickers and decals are full-colour graphics printed onto self-adhesive vinyl and then die-cut to the outline of the artwork, so the finished sticker is the shape of the design rather than a rectangle around it. Logos, machine branding, safety graphics, vehicle livery, window decals and product identification all sit here. Any shape, any size, from one to several thousand, printed digitally so there are no screens and no setup cost.

Cut vinyl lettering has no printing at all. A blade cuts coloured film to the exact letterform, the surrounding material is weeded away, and transfer tape lifts the letters so they apply in position and correctly spaced. Because there is no background panel, the result reads as though painted directly onto the surface. It is the usual choice for shopfront glazing, office partitions, door details, fleet numbering and wayfinding text.

The film matters as much as the method. Cast vinyl is thin and conformable, which is what lets it sit over rivets, curves and vehicle bodywork without lifting. Calendered vinyl is thicker and cheaper and is the sensible choice for flat signage. Frosted vinyl gives an etched-glass effect on partitions and meeting rooms. Retroreflective film stays legible under headlights, which matters on vehicles and site gates. Metallic and gloss finishes are available where the look is the point.

Outdoor life is the reason to choose vinyl over paper. The film itself is waterproof rather than merely water-resistant, so a printed vinyl decal on a vehicle or a shopfront is measured in years rather than months, and it survives rain, sun and pressure washing. If the sticker is going on a product, a box or a shelf indoors and only has to last until the item is sold, paper is cheaper and perfectly adequate: see our paper stickers and labels.

Send artwork as a vector file where you have one, since that is what a cutter follows, and a high-resolution raster is fine for printed decals. If all you have is a sketch with the wording and the sizes, our in-house graphic designers will set it up and send a proof before anything is cut or printed. Application tape is supplied with cut lettering so it goes on straight.

There is no minimum order. A single replacement decal for one machine is a normal job, and so is a fleet of vehicles or a whole shopfront. Repeat orders are straightforward because we keep the artwork and the cut path on file, so a replacement years later matches what is already on the vehicle. Everything is printed and cut in our own workshop in Singapore.

Cut vinyl that goes on a floor rather than a wall or a vehicle is laminated differently, so for walkway lines, bay outlines and directional arrows see our anti-slip floor stickers and floor marking.

Frequently Asked Questions

A printed decal is full-colour artwork printed onto vinyl and then cut to the outline of the design, so it can carry photographs, gradients and logos. Cut vinyl lettering has no printing at all: the letters are cut from coloured film, so there is no background and the text reads as if painted on. Colour artwork means printed; plain text or a single-colour logo usually means cut.

Years rather than months, which is the reason to choose vinyl over paper. The film grade matters: cast vinyl on a vehicle outlasts calendered vinyl, and a laminate adds further protection against abrasion and UV. Tell us where it is going and how long it needs to survive and we will specify accordingly.

Yes, and it is the normal way we produce them. The sticker is cut to the outline of your artwork rather than left as a rectangle, in any shape or size. Send the artwork and we will set the cut path, or our designers will draw one if the file does not have it.

Cast for vehicles and curved surfaces, because it conforms without lifting. Calendered for flat signage, where it is cheaper and performs just as well. Frosted for glass partitions where you want privacy and an etched look. Retroreflective where it has to be seen under headlights. We will recommend once we know the surface.

No. A single decal is a normal order, and so is a run of several thousand. Digital printing means no screens and no setup cost, so short runs are economical rather than penalised.
