Digital Label Printing

Full-colour digital label printing with variable data capability, no plates, no minimum run, and unique content on every label if required.

What is Digital Label Printing?

Digital label printing produces full-colour, high-resolution labels on a wide range of self-adhesive stocks, polyester, polypropylene, vinyl, paper, and specialist substrates, without plates, screens, or minimum run quantities. The entirely digital workflow means artwork can be submitted, approved, and in production within hours, and changes between jobs or variants cost nothing beyond the time to update the file.

Variable data is standard: every label in a run can carry a unique serial number, barcode, QR code, lot number, or expiry date driven from your data file. This makes digital label printing the natural choice for asset identification programmes, pharmaceutical and food labelling with batch traceability requirements, and any application where labels need to carry unique information per unit rather than a common design.

Finish options include matte, gloss, and thermal-transfer-receptive surfaces, and labels are supplied on rolls or cut sheets in any size to suit your application method. For labels that need to survive harsh service conditions, chemical exposure, high humidity, outdoor UV, or elevated temperatures, we can specify the appropriate substrate and adhesive combination from our material range and provide samples for testing before committing to full production. Beyond self-adhesive labels, the same digital process also prints short runs on artcard, for display cards, swing tags, and name cards.

Best for Full-colour, high-resolution labels that need to carry unique information per unit: asset-identification programmes, and pharmaceutical or food labelling with batch traceability. Variable data is standard, so every label in a run can carry its own serial number, barcode, QR code, lot number or expiry date driven from your data file. It prints on a wide range of self-adhesive stocks, polyester, polypropylene, vinyl, paper and specialist substrates, with matte, gloss and thermal-transfer-receptive finishes, supplied on rolls or cut sheets in any size. For labels facing harsh service conditions we can specify the right substrate and adhesive from our material range and provide samples for testing.

When it's cost-effective Short to medium runs, variable-data jobs and multi-variant work, because the entirely digital workflow uses no plates, screens or minimum run quantities. Changes between jobs or variants cost nothing beyond the time to update the file, and artwork can move from submission to production quickly. For long runs of a single fixed design, screen printing or high-speed industrial inkjet may lower the per-unit cost, and we can advise on where that crossover sits for your job.

Commonly used materials in digital label printing are Polyester (Mylar), Polypropylene, Vinyl, Paper, Chrome-look Polyester and Transparent Films.

Frequently asked questions

Digital label printing produces custom labels in any shape, size, or colour on materials including polyester, polypropylene, paper, vinyl, and metallic foil. Applications include asset tags, product labels, warning labels, barcode labels, and decorative labels, with full-colour print, variable data, and serialisation in a single pass.

Label durability depends on the substrate and laminate selected. Polyester labels with overlaminate are rated for 5–10 years in indoor environments; UV-stable polyester labels for outdoor use resist UV, moisture, and temperature cycling for 3–5 years. Chemical-resistant variants are available for harsh process environments.

Digital printing has no plate or screen setup cost, making short runs of 25–100 labels cost-effective. We can supply custom labels from small quantities through to large production runs, with consistent colour matching across repeat orders.

Yes. Each label in a run can carry unique data: sequential serial numbers, unique barcodes, QR codes with individual URLs, or variable text fields. Variable data is applied digitally without additional setup cost per variation.

Yes. Labels can be produced in any shape or size and die-cut to a custom outline to suit your product or application method. They can be supplied on rolls for automatic applicators or as cut sheets for manual application.
